Born and raised in High Point, North Carolina—the Furniture Capital of the South—Meka J Sawyer comes from strong, ancestral roots. Her family is among the first African American lineages to settle in North Carolina, with history tracing back to 1854. At one point, five generations of her family were alive at the same time, giving her a deep connection to legacy, storytelling, and spirit.

Meka grew up surrounded by smart, soulful, and hilarious grandparents who helped shape her love of storytelling. She was raised on a steady stream of Murder, She Wrote, Diagnosis: Murder, and Father Dowling Mysteries, and read stacks of fantasy and horror books by R.L. Stine and Lynne Ewing—sometimes five or more in a week. Her second home? Barnes & Noble. (She even worked there in college.)

Originally drawn to law enforcement, Meka earned a degree in Criminology, inspired by shows like Walker, Texas Ranger and In the Heat of the Night. She especially loved her deviant behavior course and was deeply impacted by speakers from the Innocence Project, who shared powerful stories of being wrongfully convicted and placed on death row.

Eventually, she realized her true calling wasn’t behind a badge, but behind a mic. After moving to Georgia, she dove into the creative world—working as a PA, a background actor, and volunteering at local film festivals. Her love of characters, stories, and sound led her to the world of voice acting, where she’s found her creative home.

Today, Meka lends her voice to fantasy, thrillers, horror, sci-fi, and metaphysical books, crafting rich, emotional performances that pull listeners in. She also narrates romance under a pseudonym, blending heat, adventure, and a touch of danger into every scene.

She’s into anime, spells, cozy mysteries, and shifter stories, and recently discovered the magic of Dungeons & Dragons—which only added more fuel to her creative fire.

When she’s not behind the mic or deep in a magical story, Meka is a proud mom to a curious, spirited 3-year-old boy and a bright, enchanting 8-month-old girl who inspire her daily with their wonder and joy. Her life is full of magic, mayhem, and love—and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
